Purchased at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris for 150 francs as a vase executed in “reflet metallique”.

The model for this painting depicting the sacred Mount Fuji of Japan reflected in Lake Kawaguchi was probably a woodblock from the Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji series by famed Japanese painter and woodblock artist Katsushika Hokusai in 1823–1829.
